I believe that we all have feelings that need to be listened to, and expressed; otherwise we can experience overwhelming emotions such as:
These emotions can manifest themselves in
Addictions (Sexual, Internet, Gambling)
Or we might need support through a life event such as:
A relationship break up
Change of circumstances such as:
retirement, children leaving home
Or we can be stuck in unhealthy relationships because of a difficult childhood and family experiences
Or maybe we experience an empty feeling that there must be something else.
The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists collated evidence for the benefits of counselling and summarised it as:-
